Je'Von Evans has pinpointed two of his favorite matches since his January 2026 call-up to the WWE Raw brand. After spending two years in WWE NXT, Evans found himself competing on the main roster against a wide array of talent.

Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Evans identified his bout against Penta and his match with GUNTHER at Madison Square Garden during the John Cena tournament as his standout performances. He noted a distinct difference in the energy he brought to these particular encounters.

I think I've had a good couple of matches overall, but the one I just had, me and Penta, that was our first time one-on-one. But also, I can't go wrong with me and GUNTHER at MSG, John Cena tournament. That was a very fun match.

I was very nervous. I feel like between GUNTHER and Penta in those matches, I just felt like there was a different type of energy. I brought a different type of energy to the match.

In a recent contest on Raw, Evans challenged the WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta for the title, though Penta retained the championship. Evans expressed his desire for another opportunity against Penta, highlighting their shared journey from the independent wrestling scene to WWE.

I feel like we have a similar coming up [story]. We both started an indie scene and made our way to WWE. So kind of having that little flare to it. Having that little sauce to it. It was such a fun match. It was a great match. I just hope that I get to have more opportunities like that.

Evans and Penta's history includes a six-man Ladder Match at WrestleMania 42. They have also teamed together in two tag team matches. One such tag team bout saw Evans and Penta face off against Rusev and Ethan Page, who is another recent addition to the main roster, on an episode of Raw.

Match Against GUNTHER

The encounter between Je'Von Evans and GUNTHER took place on November 17, 2025, emanating from Madison Square Garden in New York City. This match was part of the first round of the Last Time Is Now Tournament, an event that GUNTHER would go on to win.

Regarding his mindset heading into the physically demanding match with GUNTHER, Evans stated that he approached it like any other WWE contest.

You just got to go out there and do it. That's my mindset. Hey, when they play my music, I have no choice but to go out there. I can't be like, 'Wait, I'm not ready yet.' I can't do that. It's just one of those things like, hey, let's go out there, let's go kill it. You feel me? That's very important, for sure.

GUNTHER, known as "The Ring General," defeated "The Young OG" Je'Von Evans via submission by applying a sleeper hold, forcing Evans to tap out. At the time of this match, Evans was in the final weeks of his WWE NXT tenure, while also beginning to make appearances and compete in main roster matches. For GUNTHER, this bout marked his first match since dropping the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk at WWE SummerSlam.
