Penta successfully retained the Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw, defeating Rey Mysterio in a hard-fought contest. This victory marked Penta's ninth successful title defense during his current reign.

The championship match represented the first encounter between Penta and Rey Mysterio within WWE. Their previous bouts occurred in 2016 during the inaugural episode of Lucha Underground's third season, and again in 2018 for NEW Wrestling. Mysterio emerged victorious in both of those prior meetings.

Throughout the championship match, action was taken to the outside at multiple points. Penta worked to wear down Mysterio, utilizing chops and repeatedly dumping him back onto the apron. In the ring, Mysterio managed to secure an early near-fall with a tornado DDT.

Penta then connected with his signature Penta Driver in the center of the ring, leading to what appeared to be a match-ending cover, but Mysterio surprisingly kicked out. Mysterio then rallied, connecting with his iconic 619 followed by a frog splash. However, Penta kicked out at the last possible moment.

The bout intensified with a back-and-forth exchange that saw Mysterio hit another 619. This time, Penta managed to get his knees up on the subsequent splash attempt. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Penta followed up with a Mexican Destroyer for the decisive pinfall, thus ensuring his championship reign continued.

Post-Match Mayhem Erupts

Immediately following the conclusion of the match, chaos erupted as Ethan Page and Rusev entered the ring, launching an attack on both Penta and Rey Mysterio. Rusev delivered a Machka Kick to Penta before cinching in the Accolade submission hold on Mysterio.

The situation escalated further when Dragon Lee made a run down the ramp to intervene and make the save, successfully ousting Rusev and Page from the ring.

Page retaliated by throwing Dragon Lee into the timekeeper's area. Rusev and Ethan Page then returned to the ring and renewed their assault on Penta and Mysterio. During this renewed attack, Page and Rusev forcibly removed Rey Mysterio's mask.

The brawl was ultimately diffused when Chad Gable made his own appearance, running down the ramp to clear the ring and make the save for the fallen competitors. Following the post-match melee, Gable was observed looking contemplatively at Rey Mysterio's discarded mask.
