WWE Reportedly Eyeing Tag Team Division Overhaul Amid Multiple Departures
With several notable tag teams having departed the company, WWE is reportedly exploring options to rebuild its tag team division, considering several former WWE acts for potential returns.
Several former WWE tag teams are being considered for potential returns to the company in the near future.
Potential Reunions and Returns
Ahead of a recent WWE NXT TV taping, it was reported that Enzo Amore was seen backstage at the WWE Performance Center. Amore has established a significant presence for himself outside of WWE since his release from the company in 2018. Meanwhile, Amore's former tag team partner, Big Cass, who now goes by the name Big Bill, has made his presence felt in All Elite Wrestling. However, recent reports indicate that Big Bill's AEW contract is set to expire soon. With Big Bill potentially leaving AEW, this scenario could pave the way for the former AEW World Tag Team Champion to return to his Big Cass persona, potentially reuniting with Enzo Amore in a WWE ring.
Another notable pairing from WWE during the 2010s was the duo of the Singh Brothers, who are now known as The Blondes of Bollywood. The former Bollywood Boyz made their way to WWE and aligned themselves with Jinder Mahal, becoming a major part of his act after he captured the WWE Championship in 2017. Since their departure from WWE, Samir and Sunil Singh have become one of the most consistent and reliable duos on the independent scene. With additional years of experience under their belts, it is possible that The Blondes of Bollywood could make a return to a WWE ring in the coming months.
Since their WWE departures in May 2025, Shotzi Blackheart and Priscilla Kelly have emerged as two of the most prominent female stars on the independent scene today. They are regularly booked by various independent promotions and larger companies such as MLW, showcasing the reliability they displayed during their previous WWE tenures. During their time in WWE NXT, Shotzi and PK were part of a trio known as Chemical X alongside Tatum Paxley, who is currently the NXT Women's North American Champion. A reunion of Shotzi and PK as a unit in WWE could position them as contenders for the Women's Tag Team Championships, providing them with a spotlight that may not have been achievable during their past runs with the company.
Another pair of former WWE stars who have been making a name for themselves since leaving the company are The Good Brothers, consisting of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Widely recognized as one of the most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling, The Good Brothers have held championship gold in WWE, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and TNA Wrestling. Since departing WWE, Anderson and Gallows have competed in promotions such as Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan and MLW in the United States. The potential return of The Good Brothers to WWE would present an interesting prospect for their integration into the current roster.
The Hardys, Matt and Jeff Hardy, have been among the biggest stars and draws in TNA Wrestling since returning to the company in 2024. In 2025, Matt and Jeff Hardy made their return to WWE and went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championships as part of the brand’s working relationship with TNA Wrestling. Team X-Treme continue to perform at a high level over 30 years into their careers and could be considered for a final run in WWE before they decide to hang up their boots for good. A return to WWE would allow The Hardys to compete against current top tag teams such as The Usos, The Vision, and the Street Profits, potentially creating exciting matchups.
On April 24, the wrestling world learned that Kairi Sane had been released from WWE. Prior to her release, Sane was involved in an ongoing storyline with her tag team partner and senpai, Asuka, as part of the Kabuki Warriors. This storyline was left unfinished, which led to IYO SKY defeating Asuka at WWE Backlash 2026. Following this loss, Asuka, known as "The Empress of Tomorrow," announced she would take time off to return to Japan for personal obligations. WWE may consider re-signing Kairi Sane to bring one of the most prominent women's tag teams back into the fold, potentially with Sane returning alongside Asuka when the timing is appropriate.
Recent Championship Action in Other Promotions
In championship news from outside WWE, at AEW Double Or Nothing 2026, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR in an I Quit Match to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
