Speaking on his Hall of Fame Podcast, Booker T addressed the surprise some fans expressed regarding Sheamus' inability to reach a contract extension with WWE. He emphasized that these situations are a matter of business rather than personal animosity and questioned the notion of a "WWE lifer" in the current corporate environment.

We're in a different time now. It ain't like it was back in the day. When I hear the term 'lifer,' you know, [people saying] 'I thought he was going to be a lifer. I thought he was good.' What the hell does that really mean in a job? When you work at a job, what does that really mean? Does anybody expect any basketball player to stay on the same team forever? Any football player?

Booker T drew parallels to other professional sports, noting that athletes rarely remain with a single team for their entire careers. He also commented on how such departures are sometimes perceived negatively by the public.

When I hear people literally trying to make WWE the bad guy when somebody gets released, laid off, or fired, that just gets me, because that happens in any corporation. It really does.

He explained that WWE ownership operates within a set budget, and executives like President Nick Khan and Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque are tasked with managing finances. This can necessitate difficult decisions, such as allowing established performers to leave to make way for and fund younger talent.

There's a life expectancy in everything, okay? Someone like Sheamus, a four-time world champion, all right, he's put in his work. And the thing is, if Sheamus left WWE, he still can go and make money and still do this thing for however many more years he actually wants to do it, if he wants to do it.

Sheamus has not yet been publicly linked to any specific promotion, though he is expected to draw interest from various companies on the open market. While his contract status is uncertain, his move to the alumni section indicates the end of his current tenure with WWE is imminent.
