Cody Rhodes Retains WWE Undisputed Title on SmackDown Against GUNTHER

Cody Rhodes kept the WWE Undisputed Men's Championship on the June 19 SmackDown from Kansas City in a chaotic opening bout against GUNTHER with Sami Zayn as special guest referee, though GUNTHER later the restarted match by disqualification.

GUNTHER worked Rhodes' leg throughout the bout, including a leglock in the middle of the ring. Sami Zayn shoved Rhodes into the Gojira Clutch after a confrontation between the two, and GUNTHER later powerbombed the guest referee. Rhodes hit Cross Rhodes with no referee counting, and Darryl Sharma rushed in for a nearfall only.

After GUNTHER hit a Tenryu Powerbomb on Rhodes, Sami Zayn pulled Darryl Sharma out of the ring mid-count during GUNTHER's pin attempt. Cody Rhodes attempted a sunset flip with GUNTHER's hands on the ropes. Zayn kicked his hands free and issued a fast count. Rhodes by pinfall with the sunset flip and retained the WWE Undisputed Men's Championship. Cody Rhodes asked for the match to restart right away with a new referee, and GUNTHER and Darryl Sharma returned for a restarted bout. Sami Zayn hit GUNTHER with a Helluva Kick, and GUNTHER by disqualification.
