In the film, Johnson reprises his role as the demigod Maui. He shared a detail about the movie's plot: Moana answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
The cast of the live-action 'Moana' also includes Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, John Tui as Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams as Sina. Jemaine Clement is set to voice the character of Tamatoa, reprising his voice role from the animated version.
Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana are serving as executive producers on the new Disney film. Directed by Thomas Kail, the live-action 'Moana' is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 10th.
