"It's toner. Dudes, you must use toner," Johnson stated. He described toner as a "quiet superpower" that men often try to use from women's products. This observation led to the founding of his skincare line, Papatui, which debuted in 2024.
Johnson highlighted that his brand offers "an amazing toner that has some witch hazel in it." He also mentioned praise for the brand's volcanic ash face rub and fragrances.
Papatui Skincare Line Details
The Papatui Rejuvenating Facial Toner is described on the brand's website as "an unscented, alcohol-free facial toner designed to refresh, hydrate, and balance men's skin." The product is said to remove residual oil and impurities, exfoliate dead skin cells, and minimize pores.
Beyond the toner, the Papatui line includes a moisturizer, facial cleanser, eye gel, body wash, and hair care products.
Johnson on Men's Grooming Conversation
Johnson expressed a desire for his business ventures to normalize men's focus on skincare. "So many times I would say, 'Dude, why are we whispering [about skincare]? It's okay. We should be able to have this open conversation,'" he told PEOPLE in 2024. He believes Papatui has facilitated "a more open, greater conversation about skincare and grooming."
Earlier in June, an influencer's TikTok video humorously reacting to Johnson selling shampoo and conditioner despite being bald went viral. Johnson responded with a video featuring him with long hair for his Moana character Maui, writing, "Ok this made me belly laugh.. HARD.. And hey, sometimes a Demigod's radiant and ravishing hair needs shampoo/conditioner 😜🪝.You're Welcooooome 🎶."
Moana Live-Action Release and Future Projects
Johnson reprises his role as Maui in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Moana. The film also stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana, with Jemaine Clement, John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen in supporting roles. The live-action Moana is scheduled for release in theaters on July 10.
Additionally, Johnson confirmed that Moana 3 is in development, following the animated sequel planned for 2024.
