That night, Enzo was squashed by Mason Ryan. He later appeared in a dark segment with John Cena on the same card.

In a new interview with Emilio Sparks, Enzo recalled how Cena put him over after his first match on the brand.

I go to the ring that day in NXT to do a job, and a guy did me a favor, and Triple H brought me here, and I think he was just doing a charity case. I think it was like, 'okay, let me give this guy his fucking bar story, so that he can go back home and tell everybody about how he had a WWE match,' you know? Like, fuck, like made a dream come true, right? I get to the ring, I do the job when I get out to the ring and he buries me, and I'm like, oh shit, I got my head down, I'm walking out and rob Naylor goes, 'heads up John Cena wants to see you.' I'm like, what? can he- I run with him. I'm like, running through the parking lot of NXT. I get there and all the boys are kind of looking at me when I come in and they all clap for me, and I'm like, 'what the fuck is happening?' All of a sudden John Cena calls me over to him like this, he goes, 'I've been here for three hours and I want you to know you're the only thing that's caught my attention all day.' So would you like to come to the ring with me in the dark segment?' I immediately in that moment did something. I don't know what God took over, and I went, 'can I come to the ring with that big guy right there? The seven foot tall guy? That's my tag team partner. His name is Big Cass.' John Cena was like, yeah.

Enzo said he went to the ring that day expecting to do a job. He credited a favor from another wrestler and Triple H for getting him on the show, and felt at the time that he may have been a charity case so he could go home with a bar story about having a WWE match.

After Mason Ryan buried him in the ring, Enzo said he had his head down walking out when rob Naylor told him John Cena wanted to see him. Enzo said he ran with Naylor through the parking lot of NXT to meet Cena.

When Enzo arrived, he said the locker room was looking at him and clapping. Cena then called him over and told him he had been there for three hours and that Enzo was the only thing that had caught his attention all day. Cena asked if Enzo would like to come to the ring with him for the dark segment.

Enzo said he immediately asked if he could come to the ring with the seven foot tall wrestler he pointed out, identifying him as his tag team partner Big Cass. Cena agreed.

Enzo and Big Cass Were Not Partners Yet

Enzo noted that he and Cass were not tag team partners at the time. He said he wanted to help out Big Cass to repay him for helping Enzo get used to the wrestling business.

Enzo also spoke elsewhere in the same interview about submitting names to use in WWE.
