According to reports, Sheamus had "given up on WWE creative" around the build-up to WrestleMania 41 when a planned pursuit of Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship did not materialize. It was around this time that Sheamus, alongside members of New Day and several other veterans, recognized a decline in their utilization within the company during the Netflix era, noting a lack of communication from Triple H and the office.
Despite his belief that "creative was cooked," Sheamus had intended to continue with WWE as long as his compensation remained consistent. This sentiment led him to pursue working with Rusev, with the eventual goal of forming a tag team.
Looking ahead, Sheamus is reportedly open to working with AEW if a suitable opportunity arises, even if on a short-term basis. While some within AEW feel the roster is already too large and lacks sufficient television time, there is speculation that AEW's Tony Khan could facilitate Sheamus working with talent outside of AEW to generate attention. A potential example mentioned is a reunion of Claudio Castagnoli and Sheamus as The Bar in CMLL.
