SmackDown (June 19): Liv Morgan Beats Charlotte Flair in Queen of the Ring Semifinal

Liv Morgan defeated Charlotte Flair on WWE SmackDown to reach the Queen of the Ring final after a knee-focused semifinal marked by a pre-match attack and ringside chaos.

By Editor3 min read

Before Charlotte Flair reached Gorilla Position, Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab confronted her and told her she would not be in the semifinals if it were not for her friends. They then attacked Flair's leg.

She wouldn't be in the semifinals if it weren't for her friends

Broadcast commentary on the attack:

I did indeed release a big sigh.

Morgan attacked Flair's knee before the match even started. Aldis tried to tell Flair not to wrestle, but she still got in the ring. Flair demanded her entrance music be played and limped her way to the ring. Morgan rushed her and took an elbow in the corner, then went right for the knee and rolled Flair to the outside, ramming Flair's knee into the ring LED board and the steps.

Morgan entered the Queen of the Ring semifinal alone. No Judgment Day was in sight, and not even Dominik Mysterio had appeared yet. Alexa Bliss had been backstage with Flair before forcing her way out to ringside during the closing stretch.

Morgan targeted Flair's knee throughout the match. Flair attempted a Figure-8 submission, but Morgan escaped. Morgan hit Three Amigos, and the crowd was not enthused. Flair countered an Oblivion attempt with a German suplex with a bridge pin, which Morgan kicked out of. Morgan attempted a Frog Splash, and Flair got her knees up. Flair landed a diving Natural Selection, but Morgan kicked out. Flair attempted a top-rope Moonsault but could not stand properly, allowing Morgan to follow with an avalanche Powerbomb, which Flair still kicked out of. Flair fought back with a boot through the ropes and a Cross-Body, which Morgan kicked out of. They traded forearms before Flair dropped Morgan with a back elbow and rattled off chops. Morgan went for an Irish Whip, Flair fell before reaching the corner, and Flair countered a corner attack with a super kick. Morgan kicked out and went back to kicking at the knee.

Medical personnel, Aldis, and Bliss emerged ringside trying to tell Flair to quit. Morgan grabbed Flair, got sprung off the ropes, and landed an Oblivion, which Flair kicked out of. Morgan went back to the half Crab, and Flair tapped. Liv Morgan defeated Charlotte Flair in the Queen of the Ring semifinals.

Broadcast commentary on the match and its build:

I really don't know why we had to go through all of that drama to weaken Flair against a world champion.
Morgan not winning this match right away actually makes her look incredibly weak as a champion. Which is fair, since she hasn't even defended her title yet.
Where is Alexa Bliss, by the way? She was backstage with Flair before she forced her way out there.

The episode also featured four vignettes and backstage promos in a row from Liv Morgan, Paige and Brie Bella, Fatal Influence, and Uso, Zayn, and Rhodes. The segments amounted to minor teases about upcoming matches.

Broadcast commentary on the episode:

This SmackDown has just been weird.
It feels like the show is suddenly stalling.
