During his prime in WWE, The Rock was frequently seen wearing sunglasses, both inside and outside arenas, as an integral part of his character. While those were often purely for aesthetic purposes, he now states his current glasses serve a practical, medical function.
The actor discussed the nature of his eyewear during an interview with Rotten Tomato Trailers. The conversation arose when Catherine Laga’aia, a star of the live-action Moana remake was asked about a notable 'Dwayne Johnson' moment she witnessed on set. The Rock then elaborated on his glasses:
By the way, for context, these are prescription glasses. (takes them off) Now I can’t see anything. So they were prescription on set. I’m not the asshole who wears (sun)glasses inside. No, they’re scripts. By the way, every time we would read our lines, I would say, give me my glasses, and I’d put them on. Now, they happen to have some tint to them, so it makes me look like, ‘oh, look at this fuckin’ guy.’
In related news concerning The Rock's wrestling career, Cody Rhodes recently commented on their narrative, expressing his belief that his story with Johnson remains unfinished. The two last faced each other at WrestleMania 40, where The Rock teamed with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team main event on Night 1.
