WWE superstar Chad Gable is contemplating a potential appearance with Eric Bischoff’s Real American Freestyle, a promotion that has become the top destination for amateur wrestlers still looking to scratch the competitive itch. Bischoff confirmed that Gable is thinking about competing, making the revelation during an episode of his 83 Weeks podcast.

Real American Freestyle, or RAF, puts on matches featuring both up and coming amateur wrestling talents and established stars from the UFC. Bischoff highlighted Gable's exceptional background as an amateur wrestler, indicating his interest in the platform.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Chad Gable is a phenomenal, phenomenal amateur wrestler, and he’s kind of ‘sniffing around’ Real American Freestyle. Just throwing it out there. We’re talking about it.

Bischoff elaborated on the complexities surrounding professional wrestlers competing in RAF. When asked why fans have not seen pro wrestlers in RAF while UFC fighters can compete, Bischoff noted that contractual issues often present significant hurdles.

I think it’s just a matter of time. There are some contractual issues that can kind of make that difficult. We’re having discussions, and relatively serious ones, so I think it’s just a matter of time. I’m not going to mention any names, but I was having a conversation not too long ago with someone we all know and very excited about what we’re doing at Real American Freestyle. Comes from a collegiate amateur wrestling background. I said, ‘Just throwing it out there, what do you think?’ His response was something to the effect of, ‘I can’t kill my gimmick. It’s been eight years since I stepped on the mat.’

The individual Bischoff referenced, who comes from a collegiate amateur wrestling background, responded to the idea of competing in RAF with: “I can’t kill my gimmick. It’s been eight years since I stepped on the mat.” These discussions indicate ongoing efforts to navigate the unique challenges professional wrestlers face in participating in amateur wrestling platforms.

Chad Gable recently made his return to WWE television on SmackDown after being unmasked as the original El Grande Americano. Given his distinguished amateur wrestling career, his exploration of Real American Freestyle aligns with his competitive background, should he ultimately decide to compete.
