Chad Gable will make his main roster in-ring return against Rusev on the June 15 episode of WWE Raw. WWE booked the singles match following the June 8 broadcast, where the angle that set up the contest played out after the Intercontinental Championship bout.

On that June 8 Raw, Penta successfully retained the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio. After the match, Ethan Page and Rusev assaulted both competitors. Gable then ran down to the ring and made the save, setting up his first Raw match under his original ring name.

The contest marks Gable's first match without a mask in over a year on the main roster. Of late, he had been performing as "The Original" El Grande Americano until losing his mask at AAA Noche de los Grandes.

Gable addressed the upcoming matchup and his recent character transition in a post on social media:

The acceptance I've been given by EVERYONE upon dropping the mask and returning to #WWERaw has been overwhelming and will be forever treasured by me. But if I don't perform and live up to my own expectations, it'll all be for nothing. This Monday, Rusev is the first stop on a very important path I've defined for myself. Now or never.
