Misczak, who holds dual citizenship in Switzerland, began her scheme in January 2022, two years after her promotion to director. Prosecutors stated she embezzled tuition by transferring payments from unsuspecting parents directly into her personal accounts. She pocketed roughly $2.8 million in tuition payments through this method.
The illicit funds fueled a lavish lifestyle. Misczak spent more than $600,000 on food and entertainment, and an additional $350,000 specifically on tickets to WWE matches. Further expenditures involved several hundred thousand dollars more on luxury goods, food deliveries, and ride sharing services.
A law enforcement source previously stated that Misczak splurged on a VIP package to a WWE "Monday Night Raw" event, where she met professional wrestlers with her three children. Coworkers at KinderHaus reportedly grew suspicious of her extravagant spending, which was inconsistent with her $40,000 annual salary. Misczak attempted to explain her lifestyle by claiming to be the heir to a wealthy Swiss family, according to a lawsuit filed by the school.
Misczak's ploy was uncovered in October 2025. Following the discovery, the school’s principal had to use her personal savings to cover payroll and operational costs, the lawsuit detailed. Misczak had originally pleaded not guilty to wire fraud, money laundering, and “Engaging in Monetary Transactions in Criminally Derived Property” in late March.
Murielle Misczak’s selfish greed deprived a local daycare of nearly three million dollars in critical funding intended for services to support the development and care of our communities’ children. The FBI continues to pull back the curtain on fraudsters seeking to steal from innocent New Yorkers, regardless of their cover up attempts.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle Jr. made the statement regarding the case. Misczak now faces up to six-and-a-half years behind bars, along with paying $2.8 million in restitution. She could also face deportation upon completing her sentence.
