Kendal Grey is the new NXT Women's Champion, having defeated Lola Vice at NXT The Great American Bash 2026. Following her victory, Grey appeared on the "Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast" to discuss her journey and the guidance she has received from WWE legend John Cena.
Grey revealed that Cena has imparted wisdom on the importance of seizing the present, given the unpredictable nature of a professional wrestling career. She recalled Cena emphasizing that the end of a career is a matter of "when, not if," and stressed the significance of appreciating each moment.
"Just be in the moment." He has talked about just taking it all in, being present, being in the moment, 'cause you never know when your last time is.
The advice from Cena carries particular weight for Grey, who grew up idolizing him. She shared a cherished memory of attending a SmackDown event with her father, brother, and friends, where Cena was performing. Grey has a photograph from that night, wearing a "You Can't See Me" chain, which she views as a profound full-circle moment.
It's just so cool, like a full-circle moment that, you know, at a young age when I was like eight, I was watching John Cena, you know, compete (...) now, having him you know, give me advice and be able to watch my matches? It's just so cool.
Grey highlighted the surreal experience of receiving advice from Cena and having him watch her matches, a stark contrast to her childhood memories of watching him compete.
