Backstage Updates on Liv Morgan's Championship Reign, MJF's Injury Status, and SmackDown's Format Shift

Recent reports shed light on the status of Liv Morgan's Women's World Championship reign, MJF's condition heading into Forbidden Door, and an upcoming change to SmackDown's broadcast schedule.

New details have emerged regarding the current state of Liv Morgan's Women's World Championship run on WWE Raw, the health of AEW World Champion MJF, and a significant shift in the broadcast length of WWE SmackDown.

Liv Morgan's Women's World Championship Status

Fans are asking questions about Liv Morgan and the Women's World Championship on WWE Raw since she the gold at WrestleMania 42. Reports indicate there are currently no plans for Morgan to defend her championship in the immediate future, with a title defense potentially not occurring until SummerSlam on August 1-2.

Morgan captured the Women's World Championship at WrestleMania 42, defeating Stephanie Vaquer for the title. However, she has yet to put the championship on the line in a match. This extended period without a defense appears to be influenced by Stephanie Vaquer's current shoulder injury, which is likely halting WWE Creative's plans for the championship.

The situation reportedly highlights an inability or unwillingness within the creative team to adapt and devise other plans for Morgan until Vaquer is cleared to compete. Seeds have been planted for Roxanne Perez's seemingly inevitable departure from The Judgment Day and a potential feud with Morgan. This feud might be fast-tracked depending on how long it takes for Stephanie Vaquer to return.

Despite Morgan being a prominent part of Raw following her Women's Royal Rumble win and capturing the title after a grand WrestleMania entrance, she has reportedly done 'nothing' with the Women's World Championship since winning it. This situation reflects poorly on the writing team.

MJF Cleared for Forbidden Door Despite Injury

In AEW, World Champion MJF is reportedly cleared for Forbidden Door on June 28. This comes despite him being 'banged up' following his AEW World Championship defense against Rush on June 3.

MJF addressed his condition in a reel posted to his official Instagram account, revealing considerable inflammation in a hyperextended knee. However, he does not expect to miss any in-ring time as a result of the injury. Not seeing another of MJF's world title reigns end prematurely due to injury is considered a 'big win' for both MJF and AEW.

During Wednesday's Dynamite, it was revealed that MJF will find five partners to battle Mark Briscoe and five others in a 6-on-6 Steel Cage match. If Briscoe's team wins, he will receive a guaranteed title opportunity.

SmackDown's Upcoming Format Shift

SmackDown is set to revert to a two-hour runtime following the Night of Champions premium live event, and will remain at that length through the end of the year. This format is expected to continue with SmackDown running three hours from January to June, and two hours from July through December, extending into 2027.

It is currently unknown whether this runtime structure is part of the TV rights agreement with USA Network.

SmackDown has been described as a 'hit-and-miss' show in the three-hour format, with segments and matches often running longer than necessary to fill television time. The more compact two-hour format has consistently produced a more focused show and is expected to be welcomed in July.
