WWE SummerSlam Reportedly Planning Major Returns and a First-Time Matchup

WWE is reportedly planning significant returns and major matches for SummerSlam in Minneapolis, with winners of the Queen and King of the Ring tournaments challenging for championships at the event.

WWE is planning the return of major superstars for SummerSlam. The company has been without multiple top talents since WrestleMania 42. WWE is reportedly having significant plans for CM Punk at SummerSlam. WWE hopes to have Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre back for SummerSlam. Randy Orton has been reportedly sidelined with a back injury. Drew McIntyre has been busy filming the Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista. McIntyre briefly appeared on a King of the Ring bracket before last week's episode of Raw before the company reverted back to the original graphic.

WWE has been laying the groundwork for a big first-time matchup at SummerSlam. Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill have crossed paths multiple times this year without facing off in a one-on-one encounter. Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill recently competed in tag matches against each other at Saturday Night's Main Event and SmackDown. A match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill has been internally pitched for SummerSlam and was at one point penciled in for the August premium live event. The internal feeling is that now is the time to pull the trigger on a match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill.

WWE teased two major SummerSlam championship matches during SmackDown.
