This potential program with Gunther may lead Aldis, who is younger than several wrestlers he oversees including the Undisputed WWE Champion, back into active competition. Aldis last competed in a wrestling ring on November 10, 2023, where he challenged for the ACW Title in a Fatal 5-Way Match at ACW Bluegrass Con. He has not yet wrestled a match for WWE.
The idea of Aldis returning to the ring has been discussed internally on multiple occasions. One such instance involved a proposed program with Solo Sikoa that had gained traction in 2025. WrestleVotes indicated that once Aldis and Gunther are cleared to return to television following their storyline suspensions, their program, if it continues is not expected to end with Aldis selecting another wrestler to compete in his place.
I have never once said, hey what about me? Could I wrestle? Because I don't need to. If and when the time comes it'll be what they want, and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you want to do that, I'm ready.
Aldis, who previously held the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship for over 1000 days has maintained his physical condition. In the fall of 2024, Aldis told Chris Van Vliet that he would remain ready for a match if the creative team required it.
There have been no specifics reported regarding when or where a potential match between Nick Aldis and Gunther might take place.
