Speaking in a recent interview with The Late Run, Rey Mysterio disclosed that roughly five or six years ago, he felt a significant dip in his motivation and connection to the wrestling business. At that time, his body was reportedly "burnt out mentally and physically," leading him to consider "tapping out" from wrestling.
I actually do remember a point that happened in my life. Not too long ago, maybe about five or six years, I just wasn’t getting that same emotion when I would step into the ring. I think my body was burnt out mentally and physically. I told my wife, I remember sitting down with her and telling her, ‘I don’t feel what I would always feel everytime I would step into the ring, I think I’m going to tap out. I just don’t feel it anymore.’ Shortly after, my son told me that he wanted to try and break into the business. Seeing him or helping him get on board kind of just inspired or ignited me that fire once again and it’s been going since.
Dominik Mysterio made his wrestling debut in August 2020, facing Seth Rollins in a Street Fight at SummerSlam. Shortly after his debut, he began regularly teaming with his father. Their partnership culminated in the duo capturing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships in 2021, marking a significant milestone for the father-son pairing.
The decision by Dominik to pursue a career in professional wrestling appears to have re-inspired Rey, igniting his passion once again. The 35+ year veteran remains active on the Raw brand, wrestling on a near-weekly basis.
