WWE icon Rey Mysterio has expressed his surprise at the continued functionality of his left knee, an admission that highlights the severe physical toll of his long and illustrious career. The masked legend, who is currently 51 years old, recently detailed the extensive damage his knee has sustained over the decades.

Mysterio specifically pinpointed his left knee as the site of numerous injuries, revealing he believes the total number of significant tears to the joint, encompassing ACL, meniscus, and PCL issues is around 14.

I have an incredible wife at home that’s always looked out for me from day one, she’s always taken good care of me. She’s always reading and researching the best things for me in particular because I’ve suffered way too many ACL tears. But still, after I believe it’s 14, I’m sometimes amazed like, how is my knee still going like that? Between 14 ACL tears, meniscus tears, PCLs, just on the left one. I go back and watch tapes of my matches from back in the day. I’m right handed, but every time I would land - there’s this move, the Frankensteiner or the Rana. Every time I would jump and roll between his legs and hook him, my knees would bend in. So, every bend in kept on loosening and loosening until it snapped one time. I kept on doing it afterwards, I was stubborn. When you’re young, you don’t know, you wanna keep going and keep going. But, I’ve learned my lesson.

Mysterio attributed much of this specific knee trauma to his signature high-flying offense, particularly maneuvers like the Frankensteiner or Rana. He explained that landing with his knees bending inward during these moves progressively loosened his knee until it eventually snapped. Despite injuries, he admitted to being "stubborn" and continuing the moves when he was younger, but has since "learned his lesson." Mysterio made these comments in an interview with The Late Run, where he also revealed he was ready to conclude his career before Dominik Mysterio entered the wrestling business.
