Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has become a topic of discussion on social media following remarks he made regarding World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). During an interview, Kennedy drew a parallel between overcoming setbacks in life and the performances of WWE personalities.
The interview with NewsNation centered on the Presidential Fitness Test, which Kennedy believes was a significant error to discontinue. He stated, "I think it was a huge mistake [to end the Presidential Fitness Test]. I mean, look at our kids, we literally have the sickest population in the world." When host Anna Kooiman raised concerns about the test negatively impacting students' self-esteem, Kennedy responded with a statement that has drawn particular attention.
Failure is a part of life. Listen, the great thing about WWE, that's so inspiring is all of these guys have failed. Every one of them has lost fights. The trick is, how do you persuade yourself to stand back up and fight again?
The assertion that WWE participants are defined by their failures has led many social media users to question Kennedy's awareness of WWE's scripted nature, which includes predetermined storylines and matches. Some users on X suggested Kennedy might be intentionally perpetuating Kayfabe, the wrestling tradition of maintaining the illusion of reality.
In related comments, WWE chief content officer and former star Paul "Triple H" Levesque, who also serves as vice chair of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, discussed the renewed focus on the fitness test. Levesque emphasized the importance of encouraging effort and supporting all children, not just the most physically adept.
It's incredibly important for us to teach kids to support the kid that can't do it… you don't bully them, you don't make fun of them.
The renewed fitness test aims to reward effort rather than solely recognize top-tier success, according to Levesque.
