Fans expressed disappointment in January after Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson missed out on an Academy Award nomination for his work as Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’. Instead, the nominations for the category went to Timothee Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent). Michael B. Jordan ultimately the Academy Award in March.
In a new interview with Esquire, The Rock reflected on missing the nomination:
It would have been incredible to get nominated for an Oscar. I realized very quickly that it’s a rare thing to reach this pinnacle where you’re even having these conversations. And it’s exciting! It would have been amazing. I wish it happened. But it didn’t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, Oh, that doesn’t matter. I always thought it mattered. And it has lit a fire in my spine, which is: Let’s go back to work.
The Rock’s upcoming film projects include ‘Moana’, ‘Jumanji: Open World’, and ‘Fast Forever’.
Elsewhere in the Esquire interview, Johnson also detailed a recent cancer scare.
