During those tapings, broadcaster Tony Schiavone reportedly apologized to STARDOM for Thekla's recent disrespect toward the NJPW sister promotion. Thekla stood by her actions and issued a challenge for STARDOM to send its best to Forbidden Door. Starlight Kid, a former Wonder of STARDOM Champion and past STARDOM rival of Thekla, accepted, putting the AEW Women's World Championship match on the Forbidden Door slate. Thekla also invited STARDOM President Taro Okada to attend.
Forbidden Door would mark the third singles meeting between the two, with Starlight Kid holding a 2-0 advantage. For Thekla, it would be the seventh defense of a reign that began in February.
Thekla exited STARDOM in April 2025 after attacking Okada and being fired in storyline, then joined AEW the following month and ambushed former AEW Women's Champion Jamie Hayter. Last week on AEW Dynamite, she declared death to STARDOM before climbing a ladder and spitting on the STARDOM logo on the Titantron.
