WWE Generations: Eras Collide Released Four Years After Stephanie McMahon Teased RPG

Years after Stephanie McMahon first teased an RPG-style video game, WWE Generations: Eras Collide has reportedly arrived as a mobile game available on iOS and Android in select regions.

Players are tasked with building their own teams, each made up of three Superstars drawn from throughout WWE history. The game allows players to create "never-before-seen" teams, level up their Superstars, and compete against other teams of three, including those created by rival players. Most of the teams shown in the trailer and promo images have reportedly been seen in WWE 2K games before.

WWE Generations: Eras Collide is described as free to play. The author assumes there will be microtransactions within the game, especially as unlocking Superstars is a core premise.

In May 2022, Stephanie McMahon revealed that a WWE RPG was being developed, but there was no follow-up. WWE Generations is presumably the game she was referencing. The author finds it hard to believe the game has been in the works for four years.

As for how much of an RPG WWE Generations is, that remains up for debate. There are certainly RPG elements, including putting together a unique team, leveling them up, and turn-based battles where players and opposing teams take turns performing moves. However, it appears to lack a story of any description. Without a story, the game is described as less RPG and more of a simple live service mobile game.

Players will be able to compete on different shows and PLEs, and potentially work through a calendar in WWE Generations. More about the game will be learned as it becomes more widely available.
