Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ringmates, Wight recounted the incident when asked about the toughest person he has worked with. He immediately selected John Cena and shared two notable stories to illustrate his point.
Cena's Remarkable Recovery
Wight recalled Cena's immense resilience, citing the instance where Cena had neck surgery at 7 a.m. and then visited the building to see everyone by 3 p.m. the same day. Wight stated, "Believe it or not, John Cena, you know, John Cena had neck surgery at 7 a.m. and at 3:00 in the afternoon, he came by the building to say hello to everybody. This is a guy that had his neck fused and within less than 7 hours, he came by to say hello to everybody. So, that’s pretty tough."
The surgery Wight referenced took place in August 2008. Cena suffered a herniated disc during his SummerSlam match against Batista, which necessitated neck fusion surgery performed by Dr. Joseph Maroon. Reports indicate that Cena arrived backstage at a WWE event only a few hours post-operation, sporting a small neck bandage, to the surprise of many who expected him to be recovering in the hospital.
Further Examples of Toughness
Wight also shared another instance of Cena's toughness, describing how he witnessed Cena get "stabbed in the eye and have his cornea scratched" but still report for work the following day. "I’ve seen him get stabbed in the eye and have his cornea scratched and he’s still at work the next day. That’s pretty tough," Wight said.
